Web Analytics: An Hour a Day

Web Analytics: An Hour a Day

To day I find introduce you this Web Analytics: An Hour a Day You can see Now!

Customer Shopping BuZZ

Indepth5
This book is fantastic. Not only does it cover everything, but it does it in a simple way, an hour a day!

I reckon once you have finished this book you will be a head of the majority.

Must get for analytics.

The only book on Web Analytics you'll ever need5
Technologies evolve, but the PROCESS by which we should collect and analyze online data in order to gain solid, actionable insights will remain constant for the foreseeable future.

I have been fortunate enough to work with some of the smartest online marketers in the business, and, to say the very least, most of these people -- especially those in the analytics community -- seem content to share their expertise in the most confusing and theoretical manner possible. But not Avinash Kaushik. And in "An Hour a Day," Avinash proves why he is the world's most trusted name in analytics: he brings us up to his level without unnecessary jargon, so we can actually understand how to do this stuff!

Without question, this book is required reading for ANY online marketer, business owner, or anyone currently outsourcing their web analytics. (Warning: You may become better at this than the people you're paying to do it for you!)

Have a website you're not properly tracking? You're not alone! Less than a third of e-commerce and B2B sites have sufficient web analytics tracking -- let alone a process by which to glean insight from it -- and it's not the technology's fault. The problem is that most people don't understand the VALUE and NECESSITY of web analytics. They don't realize it's the difference between sink or swim. For most organizations, web analytics is an afterthought; something pawned off to those with technical knowledge when it should really be understood by those who need to use this data to make serious business decisions. Well, folks, those days are over. If all you know about your site is how many page views, uniques, or (*yikes*) "hits" it's getting, you're in much worse shape than you currently realize, simply because you have no idea how much money and attention you're missing out on if you have no clear goals in mind or a system by which to quantify it.

If you're not measuring it properly, how can you ever claim to have an online strategy that's working? How else will you know how successful your campaign is? How else will you know which elements to test and optimize?

Whether you're a beginner or you know just enough about web analytics to be dangerous, you should absolutely buy this book today. The book pays for itself a hundred fold in the very first hour of the very first day.

Not enough GA application info4
My only issue is that the book doesn't address how to use google analytics more. He gives a lot of suggestions, but there isn't enough guidance in actually how to use GA to pull the data he recommends.

WEB 2.0 What's ?

Web 2.0 is a term describing changing trends in the use of World Wide Web technology and web design that aims to enhance creativity, secure information sharing, collaboration and functionality of the web. Web 2.0 concepts have led to the development and evolution of web-based communities and its hosted services, such as social-networking sites, video sharing sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies. The term became notable after the first O'Reilly Media Web 2.0 conference in 2004.

Although the term suggests a new version of the
World Wide Web, it does not refer to an update to any technical specifications, but to changes in the ways software developers and end-users utilize the Web. According to Tim O'Reilly:

“
Web 2.0 is the
business revolution in the computer industry caused by the move to the Internet as platform, and an attempt to understand the rules for success on that new platform.
”

O'Reilly provided examples of companies or products that embody these principles in his description of his four levels in the hierarchy of Web 2.0 sites:

Level-3 applications, the most "Web 2.0"-oriented, exist only on the Internet, deriving their effectiveness from the inter-human connections and from the network effects that Web 2.0 makes possible, and growing in effectiveness in proportion as people make more use of them. O'Reilly gave
eBay, Craigslist, Wikipedia, del.icio.us, Skype, dodgeball, and AdSense as examples.

Level-2 applications can operate offline but gain advantages from going online. O'Reilly cited
Flickr, which benefits from its shared photo-database and from its community-generated tag database.

Level-1 applications operate offline but gain features online. O'Reilly pointed to Writely (now
Google Docs & Spreadsheets) and iTunes (because of its music-store portion).

Level-0 applications work as well offline as online. O'Reilly gave the examples of
MapQuest, Yahoo! Local, and Google Maps (mapping-applications using contributions from users to advantage could rank as "level 2").

Web 2.0 Patterns goes on to examine:

  • A Model for Web 2.0 -- An in-depth look at the evolution of the Client-Server model into a more elaborate model for Web 2.0. It illustrates concepts such as "servers" evolving into a services (SOA) tier to facilitate interactions between systems and humans.
  • A Web 2.0 Reference Architecture - A generic component view that helps decision-makers recognize the basic patterns in existing Web 2.0 applications and software that can be repurposed for other commercial ventures.
  • Specific patterns of Web 2.0 -- Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), Software as a Service pattern (SaaS), Participation-Collaboration Pattern, AJAX, Mashups, Rich User Experience (a.k.a. RIA), Collaborative Tagging Systems (Folksonomy), and more which can be repurposed to other businesses of technologies.

In true Web 2.0 fashion, Nickull, Hinchcliffe, and Governor also present the reference model and patterns in Web 2.0 Patterns on their companion web site so that others in the industry can augment it and continue the discussion.
