Fabulous publication!
If there was one thing about HALO I could always call my favorite in terms of pure, stunning visual entertainment, it's always been their art. And not just from Bungie themselves, mind you. The fan art out there is numerous and HQ.

This book is just amazing, and simply so. I believe their aim was to showcase the art, let it speak for itself, which it most certainly did. And I really appreciated the incredibly small captions in the Flood portion of the book, making you really dig deep into the writing if you wanted to learn interesting little tidbits about the UNSC's most formidable foe.

The visuals, as always, are very, very stunning. And images you may have seen before are not only even higher rez, but there are sometimes different permutations of them on the same page! And we definitely see some never-before-seen images that really tell a story of development in the artistic sense. And the capttions provide even more insight into the creative process that goes on behind the scenes.

WIthout giving too much away, I'll just say this was $20 well spent. I could keep picking up this book and I wouldn't get bored. As an avid fan of HALO, I recommend this.

The Art of War
The Art of Halo 3 is an excellent book, and the sketches and drawings included inside are fantastic. Bungie has some truly gifted people working for them and their skills really show in this book. If you enjoyed The Art of Halo: Creating a Virtual World, then you will not be disappointed with The Art of Halo 3. One big benefit to this book over its predecessor is that it's a hardcover, which is more durable and looks nicer in my collection.

The only real gripe I have with this book are the pages with the dark gray background. The text on these pages is printed with a slightly lighter gray color, which is next to impossible to read (medium gray on dark gray). I wish the book had used white text instead, or an alternate color. Either way, more contrast is needed. Other than that, the book is superb.

This is a very good book about the art of writing and designing videogames. It has opened my eyes to many important factors of the process of creating a story (characters, plot, "the hook",...) and it included interesting exercises to assure you are following the pages and exercising your creativity. I think is not only useful for the digital world but also to writing stories in other medias.

Great for both veterans and beginners
I have seen reviews written by seasoned game designers praising the quality of this book. However, this book also helps experience writers get in grips with designing and writing games. The book may seem a bit thin (physically) considering its massive title, but it is really a fast paced, well-balanced and informative guide to the world of game design and writing. I would call this book a 0-fat book in that it contains nothing that is not truly important.

Dog-Eared and Book-marked
I haven't even finished this book yet and already it's in rough shape! It's highlighted, dog-eared, bookmarked, etc. This is a fantastic book to use alongside your first project. It's not just a book, it's a work-study course on the subject. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in game writing.

Amazon had the best price for this book. We have a friend who played Fable 2 without it and he complained how boring it was and how short the game was. He missed tons of stuff because he only followed the gold trail and didn't wander from that path and find all of the hidden items.

Missing the most needed feature...
I've bought a lot of game guides. I was glad to see that this book is well-printed. I've had a lot of game guides which pages so badly blurred they're illegible. Not a problem here.

However, the one feature I keep picking up this book for is the one feature it's missing. Maps. In my review of the game I mentioned the poor quality of the mapping. The book doesn't help. It gives you the hidden stuff, which is nice, but it doesn't give you the "meat-and-potatoes" of the game, such as the stores, the houses, the things you can buy...

The book does detail the quests pretty clearly. So if you have no clue on how to follow a dotted line on the screen to your various objectives, then I guess this book will help you.

If you're shooting for 100% completion then you'll really benefit from this book. Unfortunately I think the game will bore you before you reach that point, and it definitely won't help you in the day-to-day playing of the game.

I want my money back
Well first of all as far the the story missions go this guide is pointless there is always a trail telling you where to go and the info you do get you cannot benefit from. And where they should be helping they do not. For example in the beginning of the game there are certain tasks you can complete good or evil that will have effects when you become an adult in the game. The guide doesn't tell you what will happen I had to look online for that.

However I did not buy the guide for the story missions I bought it to help collect the randome weapons and items throughout Fable 2's world. But it fails even worse in this category. This is by far the worst guide I have ever purchased. If you are looking for a guide that shows all the locations of items in the game world look elsewhere.

This guide attempts to show where to go but is inaccurate for the majority of the time. Also the items you pick up dont match with the ones in the book so you don't know if you opened the correct chest for example because not only is the location off but the items in the book dont even match half the chests in the area. I have also been to areas where they have completley left out items that I happened to find by accident for example the silver key found in bowerstone market behind the pub. And there are many others I cannot find due to this poor guide.

Bottom line SAVE YOUR MONEY. Don't buy this trash it is a complete waste of money and I want my money back. If I had the option to give this guide a -5 I would have.

Fun for kids of all ages!
My kids LOVE this game! OK, so it's the first one we bought when we got the Wii, but my almost 5 year old has mastered this game in one week. My almost 3 year old drives off the road often and places last, but he doesn't even care because he's having so much fun! Even when you "die" in this game, you still get to play because a little parachute drops you back off where you went off road. I personally stink at this game, but my kids and husband love it!! Great for anyone who likes driving video games. So many races to choose from, and so many options. Highly recommend it!!!

Must have for the MK addict
I am SO happy I decided to purchase this game guide. It shows so many tricks and hints on how to get "ahead of the pack". I especially found the selection on the differences in the vehicle and character selections can make on your races. If you are a Mario Kart addict like me - this is a must for you. I would tell you it would also make a perfect gift for another MK player you may know of, but why increase their chances of winning against you. :-)

great guide for a great game - with one error
My daughter and I got the guide after the game, to help us improve our scores and it certainly did that. This is a well-written, very helpful guide, with ONE minor but glaring error: It states that specific characters do not affect vehicle performance. This has been proven otherwise, as I found out while searching some of the internet gaming sites. Aside from that one imperfection, the guide is terrific, and well worth the investment. It has certainly enhanced our Mario Kart experience.

Fantastic!
This is a great book for those learning to SIMFLY! I wish I would have purchases this back when I was working on my Private Pilot's License, because it is extremely helpful. The lessons and training missions you download from the internet are worth the money on their own. I have been using this book and missions to learn to fly the G1000 as well as to help me with my Instrument Rating. I highly recommend this book!

The only negative is that it is not printed in color.

Was once in color?
The page designs for this book appear to have been intended for printing in full color. There was liberal use of spot color and much use of full color screen caps in the design; but as the book is printed with only black ink, the illustrations and other graphic elements are lacking in contrast--like printing a color negative on b&w photo paper. The title should have gone through a redesign to optimize it for one-color printing. While it's still legible, the effect makes me feel like I missed out on something.

Yes, for real pilots
This volume was suggested to us by our flight instructor, who found that the mental exercize of simulated inflight practice increased his efficiency in learning. I found it slightly overwhelming at first, but perhaps it is the challenge of the older generations to conquer the electronic media. It is a bit like learning to speak French to learn Spanish, but the overall concept should help decrease actual flight costs. Looking forward to the process.

Awesome idea for a beginning gamer!
I haven't used this product personally- I bought it for my little brother who wants to create video games for a living. I'm sure he's gonna love it when he opens it this Christmas!

Great book but Software company is Risky
I own this book and it is excellent as is the software that comes with the book. (Game Maker Lite edition) I would not upgrade to the pro however as I paid for the pro upgrade key and Softwrap, the company in charge will not give me my activation key. Moreover, I have created two tickets with Yoyo Games helpdesk and both have been ignored. Buyer Beware. I have reported this to Paypal.

The Wasteland Survival Guide
I ordered this guide off Amazon and I have to say that Prima did an excellent job. It has info for all of the main quests and all of the side quests. One part of the guide that may be a bit difficult to navigate is the Tour of the Wasteland section where it lists every possible locale you can visit including info even on the freeform quests. It's very, very exhaustive.

The book itself is very well made The paper is not glossy. I can't really describe the feel of it. It's rougher than normal paper. It almost reminds me of the spelling paper I used in elementary school. I really like the paper. The guide is definitely built to last. The binding is very secure.

I foundd myself reading through it here and there even if I wasn't necessarily using it as a 'guide.' This is one of the more well made guides out there.

A very comprehensive companion to the game
This is most likely the mostly in-depth and comprehensive strategy guide I have used (I only use them for RPGs). The authors did a most excellent job. It can even be daunting at first, as opening it up to any random page and viewing it's contents is like doing the same with a textbook, so much information. But once you learn how the book's laid out, it's not as overwhelming. The amount of valuable info held within is definitely worth the money, especially at Amazon's price. (I honestly don't know what the collector's edition provides other than it's nicer hardcover. I researched it before buying it, and that may be the only benefit.)

Huge, just like the game.
This is a comprehensive guide and very expansive. It shows you every single thing to earn, kill, complete, and find in the game. And for those who havent played the game yet, thats well over 120 hours worth of play time if you want to try and complete everything in the game in one playthrough.

However, ive had to bookmark sections to flip back and forth between because in reality you could get a headache because of the mass amount of things to do, and if you dont do them right you'll miss out on things. I honestly have gotten a headache or two because there really is so much to do. Make sure you read ahead in things before you atempt to head out in the wasteland or do new things. You will find many times that while doing one quest you must complete another in order to make the one you wanted to do originally have better rewards, or get more quests and people etc.

I think the only downfall of this guide is that things arent laid out in an exactly orderly fashion quest wise. You will have to have sections bookmarked to flip between them (as I stated above)

A word of advice to the new player: Create many saves, because you might get a glitch (which happens a bit too often) or do something to ruin the Autosave you just passed through. Save before you complete a quest, or speak to a new person, or take a new path...because that could exclude certain new objectives and items if you do them wrongly or say the wrong thing in speaking.

Great addition to the Game
This is a great addition to the Game it self. The game itself is a great addition to the series.

Go with a different brand, or better yet....an oblivion wiki....
I bought this along with the game for x360. This guide is for all versions of the game(x360, ps3, pc, etc.) so what is correct for one platform might be different from your choosen platform. This results in having to figure out what is correct for you and what isn't(the guide says that this might not work for a specified platform but it isn't consistent or consistently correctin regards to this problem). I just got a fable 2 guide book a few days ago from a different brand and the fable book is 10 times better in all aspects. I would definately Not reccomend this book to anyone. I HAVE to suggest not throwing your money away on this and using an oblivion wiki(I'm not going to reccomend any wiki, but a quick search will bring up quite a few). I have found myself using a specialized wiki whenever I have a question about the game and I haven't even opened this book since the week after I opened it the first time(2 months or so). Since amazon doesn't give any guidelines for giving stars, I used this:

1 star: horrible
2 stars: below average
3 stars: average
4 stars: above average
5 stars: great

Very useful guide for a GREAT game.
Not required to enjoy Oblivion, but very very helpful, especially if you're looking for that item you missed. Well worth the green to get it. Covers all platforms and published add-ons. Second printing (available now) now correctly includes previously omitted maps, etc). Covers available spell/item creation criteria, item/quest locations, monster types and stats, complete quest writeups, screenshots and much more. Single annoying factor (that wasn't fixed with the first edition)remains the lack of proper indexing of quests. General categorizing is nice, but there is no rhyme or reason to the order of the listings, resulting in a lot of spoilers revealed while you're looking for the route that one NPC you need to talk to is travelling. Not a biggie or dealbreaker; just have a degree of patience while perusing this big tome of info.

Great Information
Helped my group finish the last boss in "Nexus" on Coldarra. Wiped twice before we read the book and beat the boss with ease. I wouldn't resort to the book first but you look like a hero when you can get everyone through the instance with a little help from the book.

Great way to keep track of items and
...that's about it. It has all the characters names listed, birthdays, bugs, fish, furniture and some hints to getting special items. Not easy to follow and does not offer "major" cheat codes. This book will allow you to keep track of your inventory and special occasions, other than that I don't see a lot of use for it. It does have a lot of flaws and leaves out information that is would be beneficial. For example, I searched the book for a reason why the bus is not always available to go to the city all the time and did not find anything except that the bus is available 24/7. That is not the case. Since the game is so new and there are still a lot of new discoveries out there, maybe they will come out with a newer version of this that will be more helpful with hints and clues.

i love this game. when i first saw it, i said...well i dont know about this game, it doesnt look like i can play this everyday all day like i do most of my video games. but the first day i played it, i was hooked. i mean, i have to play it everyday. my bf reminds me when KK Slider is in town and when i need to go to the hair salon and everything. it is crazy how real this game is. i would reccommend this game to any and everybody.

A nice book...
Not quite as good as an Offical Nintendo guide would have been, but this guide does give some good pointers to new and old Animal Crossing fans alike. Some of the nicer things are added checklists for all 4 townies to the items list and a cool doublesided poster. Downsides is some of the things like the Fish and Bug guides are somewhat confusing and there are some errors. If you have the spare cash and/or don't want to download & print lists off the internets, I'd say it's a good buy.

Decent strategy guide for a huge game.
This strategy guide is huge! Probably one of the thickest game guides I've ever seen. But then again, Fallout 3 is a very big game. Everything you need is in this guide.

That being said though, I wish that it was organized a little better or had an index for finding things faster. The pullout poster map is nice, but again the legend is confusing and takes a while to find what you're looking for with a "zone" system. I wish there were a smaller version in the book, because I don't always feel like getting out that big foldout map.

It is written very well and the author's comical side notes are entertaining. The presentation is nice. Overall a decent guide to help you through the Wasteland of post-apocalypse Washington D.C.

If it had an index, I'd give this a 5+++++ stars!!!!
Well written, great diagrams, leaves nothing out, however, I wish this guide had an index. Other than having to thumb through 500+ pages to find the help you are looking for, this guide is MANDATORY if you play Fallout 3.

Lots of Info I found useful
I have been using this guide while playing through Fallout 3.

The pullout map inside is excellent if you want to just find the main areas or, like me, love to search the little nooks and crannies.

It has a section for the main quest walkthrough, side quests, and even each "grid" of the map broken down into areas, each area broken down into the places you can see and what is there.

Also, a comprehensive section on what each S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stat is for and the different Perks. This I found excellent so I could plan my character and not waste anything.

And way in the back? Where you can find things such as secrets!

I would definately recommend this guide to anyone wishing to get all they can out of Fallout 3.

Best Ever
This game is the best. It is way more game than I thought. I will never finish..........

Not Worth the Full Price
I didn't pay for this book. Instead, I got it for free because of a special deal Amazon was offering. As a free book, I have no problems with the Spore guide. It offers a few details and insights not found in the game hints, and also has a lot of examples of different types of creatures for the creatively-challenged.

That said, this guide is not worth the full price. The majority of the content IS simply a repeat of the game hints that come automatically turned on with the game. If you get it for free or a couple bucks, then pick it up. Otherwise, don't bother.

Handy Reference but could use better visuals
I've found the guide to be a very handy reference when I need a quick explanation of something. It could use some better visuals when describing certain functions, such as the terraforming panels, etc.

Overall, it's good to have it around so you don't get lost. It's definately not a walkthrough guide, but a pretty good reference.

Perfect
The new calendar format works perfectly for me and I am grateful for the change. As a mom I love the new sections for babysitters' numbers and so forth. The illustrations are beautiful and the choices and themes for illustrations and quotes are better than last year's-- more hopeful and sweet, none of the cynical "smart" humor that I don't care for (which she sometimes does). Lots of pics of moms and babies and kids playing and so forth-- the good stuff. I agree about flipping through the calendar first to see if you like the subject and format. But for me, this was perfect and I am actually excited about using this planner! :D

Disappointed
I have loved Mary's 2008 and was looking forward to another the
same this year but I see that the format has changed to one I
don't like. I like each day of the week to have the same amount of
space.

Disappointed!
I wish they had put full images of each month's calendar at the beginning of the book like they had in the 2008 version. I like the way they changed the day by day for writing in daily appointments, but I do not like that they left out the full month calendars. I'm sorry I purchased these and I may return them. Do yourself a favor and look at a calendar store in the mall and see if you like them before buying.

Like the pig who gets a pancake, and the moose who gets the cookie, the cat who gets a cupcake leads their owner on a frenetic trip to the kitchen, beach, and museum. A very fun series kids always love again and again. They never seem to get tired of it. As a teacher I love using the stories and having students learn to read it themselves. It is wonderful to see the delight in their eyes. I highly think that it is great that Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond can up with new ideas and still complement their older stories.

Good but same as the others
My daughter loves this series so she got this on the first day it came out. She likes it but I find it to be slightly tedious. Mouse Cookie and Pig Pancake were much catchier and had a better flow. I feel this is just a feeble attempt to cash in on the series. I gave it 4 stars because my daughter enjoyed it but I wish I would've rented it from the library instead of buying it. It's one story she doesn't return to.

I love this series
When I was a child, one of my favorite little books was "If you gave a mouse a cookie...." To this day, I still have that book intact and in great condition. Kids will love this book. It's fun to read with little ones, and brings back memories. I actually purchased this for the Amazon Toy Drive for the Today Show, and I hope some child gets to enjoy this book as much as I did.

Rodrick sucks!
This is the second book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. Our "hero" Gregory Heffley, is a year older, but no wiser or more mature. The diary format continues, although Greg would prefer the term "journal". A lot of really funny things happen in this book. If you're a kid, or just a kid at heart, you should really enjoy this book.

Have not read this book but.......
I admit to having never read this book, or any of the others in the series, but by three nephews, third, fourth and fifth graders love them and read them constantly. I figure if the kids like them, then they, the books are doing their job. Kids who read have such an advantage over kids that do not. So....despite my lack of reading participation in this series, I have to recommend them.

From laughing so hard! I am an adult and woman and love this book. A boy or girl from middle school on up can relate to this book about American life. The jokes are often laugh out loud funny and you end up bothering people trying to show someone the latest cartoon or tell the most recent joke. Just fantastic and it's true, reluctant male readers aren't so reluctant anymore!

Don't touch the cheese.
I read this book in one sitting today. It is "a novel in cartoons", it says on the cover. More specifically, it is the fictional diary of a middle school boy, with drawings. It is very funny. Several times I laughed out loud while reading it. If you want to find out of this book would appeal to you, search for the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" website and check out some of the diary entries.

A Side Spitter!
This is just the funniest book ever! I was laughing so hard my sides hurt! I am an adult who teaches middle school children and I couldn't have found this book any funnier than if I was 12 years old. Poor Greg with brothers like Rodrick and Manny and friends like Rowley, I'm not sure how he survives. Surrounded in school by a bunch of morons and not an intelligent face in sight. How had he ever gotten so far? You've gotta love this book. I read it during silent reading and all the kids were gathered around me as I showed them the jokes. After I put the book down, everyone else wanted to borrow it.

In this funny graphic novel by Jeff Kinney about a "wimpy" kid, that I wouldn't call exactly wimpy, Gregory Heffly goes to a pretty much normal middle school with one very abnormal friend, Rowley. Greg thinks that he will be rich and famous when he gets older. "If you ask me, I think that middle school is just a bad idea" he says.
It is kind of like a mildly tragic story to Greg and not-so tragic in others, but it is always very funny! In one part there is the cheese, which Greg guesses just fell out of somebody's sandwich onto a basketball court. It has probably been there for a year or so until somebody touched it!
The middle school is basically a normal middle school wimps haven't hit their growth spurt yet and giants who shave, and morons, all in one school and often one classroom in Gregory's middle school.
Gregory Heffly continues his amazingly funny saga in other books such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules, Diary of a Wimpy kid: The Last Straw; and others coming soon!
I would recommend this book to people that like humorous fiction. Now here is why I think that Greg is not exactly wimpy: I think he is not exactly wimpy because he cares about his image, he writes in a journal NOT a diary, although I still think he is quite wimpy, as Greg thinks he is around 52nd or 53rd most popular, Greg guessed that his friend Rowley is around 150th.

Keeping kids growing!
My 6 year old grand-daughter is way ahead of the curve! I wanted a book for her to read that would pique her interest and keep her smiling. This is the one to do it. Learning big words and what they mean keeps her growing mentally and looking for more. Great book!

Cute--but be careful if diversity is an issue. .
We bought this book for a precocious little 3 year old friend. It was just right, except that his parents are gay, and there are references to "When Dad buys me shoes. . " or "When Mom takes me to the store. . "

Families come in all shapes, sizes and forms, and we forget sometimes that "Mom and Dad" aren't paired parental titles in all families.

Divorced families might present the same dilemma in giving a kid this book. I'd have thought that Jamie Lee Curtis would have been a bit more socially conscious.

Big Words is a big hit!
Another great book by Jamie Leigh Curtis and her illustrator Laura Cornell. I am a Childrens librarian, and enjoy reading ALL of her books to the children at story times! She really speaks to the children in a way they understand and enjoy.

Another great work by Gaiman
While I am a huge fan of Neil Gaiman's writing, I started this book with no little trepidation. The Jungle Book means a lot to me, in more ways than I can explain here, so I didn't want to see it disparaged or overshadowed. I need not have worried. Gaiman created a wonderful and completely unique story that is simply excellent in all the ways that The Jungle Book is excellent.
This book is accessible enough for preteens, but anyone would enjoy it.

Excellent story - more please!!
The Graveyard Book Neil Gaiman included a chapter of this story in "M for Magic" and I loved it, so I was delighted to discover that Gaiman would be doing a whole novel centred around Bod. This is a entertaining, gripping and thoroughly enjoyable story that left me wanting more (and luckily it's open-ended enough for a sequel). Gaiman displays his usual magic in weaving the narrative together and creating memorable and interesting characters.

Go buy it now...you will not be sorry
The Graveyard Book is Neil Gaiman's second entry into the young adult arena. The first novel was Coraline and that is being made into an upcoming movie. The book follows the adventures of Nobody Owens also known as Bod (think I would have stayed with Nobody). His parents meet an unfortunate fate that forces Nobody to live the neighborhood graveyard. Nobody is raised by ghosts, Mr. & Mrs. Owens, and a caretaker, Silas.

What I liked: Easy answer, everything. This is a book that will sneak up on you. It will start out simple in the beginning but by the end you are deeply involved with the characters. Neil Gaiman also accomplishes what few authors can. His young Nobody acts and sounds like kid and as he grows, the character changes to match his maturity. The side characters are also well thought out and add much to the story.

What I didn't like: I wish the book was longer. Some of the side characters, like Silas, have an interesting back story that is never fully explored. One can always hope for a sequel.

Last word: Don't be put off by the Young Adult tag. Go buy it now, you will not be sorry.

Like when Dan and Amy found skulls on the wall numbered from 1 through 10. Then Dan thought of something very smart. SMASH THEM!!!!! But Amy said..... I give the book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. Read it trust me.

Sure it's a marketing strategy...but hey, it's a good story too
I ordered this for my son for Christmas. It arrived yesterday and it just sat there...enticing me. So I started to read just a bit to see what the hoopla was all about and lo and behold, I got sucked into the story.

I have absolutely no problem with the cards being part of it. My son collects cards from different things--why should this be any different than his Pokemon collection? He'll be reading...bonus #1....he gets to collect cards...bonus #2...and it's online as well...big bonus!

Best Book Ever!! Can't Wait for Book 2
My Mom got me the Maze of Bones book and some of the cards. I have to admit, I am not a reader! In fact if there is anything!! else to do I will do it to avoid reading. But, I really loved Maze of Bones. I loved the book because it doesn't really end. It keeps going and leads to another clue and another and so on. I liked the way the two kids even though they were alone and afraid at times they kept going. The other families or people looking for the clues were kind of weird and quirky and they made me laugh. I liked the cat Saladin ( murp:-) ). I think that maybe Amy and Dan's grandma knows something about the kids than we don't know yet. I think that they are really truly good and deserve something good to happen for them. I hope in the end Amy and Dan discover the secret first.

Good Addition To a Harry Potter Collection
The Harry Potter Schoolbooks are written as if they really came from the wizarding world. The box set contains just too books which are around 50-70 pages long each, but include interesting back-story about the world of Harry Potter with respect to beasts and Quidditch. The books are inexpressive and also 20% of the cost should go to charity. I would really like to see more schoolbooks come out now that the seventh book in the series has been written. Half-Blood Prince's Potions book anyone?

crazy awesome
i loved the first 2 books then read that the 3rd would be a let down, i didn't want to believe that so i bought the book and i what i read wouldn't allow me to. i was blown away, the cover is awesome and so is the book. i read an earlier review, that told me about the book, and read that meggie plays a diminshed role and its true but what mo, farid, and dustfinger do makes it up.

Oh come on
This book is so different and boring and so plotless and demeaning to the rest of the series it seems like Cornelia Funke didn't really write it at all.

All the characters are different. Meggie is a selfish brat who won't leave the stupid `Ink-World' just because. Farid kisses girls while he's being a slave to the stuck-up and pompous Orpheus. Mo is an idiot who doesn't want to save his and his families lives just because he doesn't want the Ink-world to be without a Bluejay.

What happened to Meggie becoming an author? Why doesn't she at least ATTEMPT to write them back?

The whole picture of the novel is that a family is fleeing for their lives from the Adderhead, and are freezing, flea-bitten, and hungry. Yet, they don't miss home, or even try to go back. Mo doesn't want to, so he refuses to go even when Resa pleads for the sake of their unborn child (women often died from childbirth there). Her opinion doesn't matter to him, even though he claims to love her and that she is his wife.

Fenolgio is a senile old man that won't help anyone, and while the country is being torn apart they do nothing but titter around and talk about boring things, and worry about the Piper and Adderhead.

Meggie and Farid aren't together in the end. Instead, a picture-perfect guy with a girl's name is in his place.

Mrs. Funke should have really stopped with Inkheart.

And not even mentioning the boy's name in the end? Elinor selling her family jewels when she could have just gotten Darius to read gold into their hands?

Mo also says that Meggie is in love with Farid, and she's almost grown up, therefore, the family should stay there.

THIRTEEN?! You call that 'almost grown-up'? His parenting makes me wonder if he cares about Meggie at all. What happened to his obsessive need to protect her that was in Inkheart?

Also, girls don't fall in love at thirteen. It doesn't happen. Puppy-love, maybe. Most likely a crush. But families don't stay in suicidal worlds just because their daughter has a little crush on someone who won't leave that world. Mo really got on my nerves.

It's a horrible novel, and I don't know what five-star people are thinking.

Magical
This was a wonderful trilogy; one that I will always treasure for its beautiful storytelling and memorable characters. It was so easy to get lost in the magical world created by Funke (or was it Fenoglio? ;-P ). The characters effortlessly worked their way into your heart. I loved the conclusion to the trilogy, and I couldn't have wished for a more perfect ending!

My little girl absolutely loves this one. She may not completely understand it even though it's a very simple read, she loves to get to the end and give herself kisses on the mirror (plastic), as well as peeking at daddy through the corners of it.

A favorite
I got this book for my 12 month old daughter and she absolutely loves it. She picks it up throughout the day to play with. She likes being able to turn the pages to see what the picture really is. On the zoo page we take the time to point to and name all of the animals. The book is simple and sweet and just the right length for her attention span.

toddler loves this book
I ordered this for my baby boy and it's his favorate book! Well, a tossup between that and "Silly Faces in the Ocean" I was a little dissapointed with the size of the book though. I only wish Amazon included book dimensions in their descriptions. Anyway, I guess it's just the right size for him. He laughs at the ending every time.

Great book!
My 9 yr old son just loves this series, and especially loves this book! The series itself is very rich in typical 9 yr old boy humor that my son just laughs out loud over. This book in particular is great because it is interactive. My son is having a lot of fun filling in the pages with his own creative writings, sharing it with his friends, etc.

twilight is awesome
i received my twilight boxset at the start of 9 days off. i finished it before i had to go back to work. i could not put the books down! i have seen the movie twice. it is all just great! the last book was a little draggy at the beginning, but once things got moving, it was great again. i'm rereading the books because i just devoured them the first time around. definitely recommend this to anyone who likes action, romance, horror, its all there. and i'm a thirtysomething mom.

Wow Twilight just Rocks
I don't like to write a lot, I wouldn't want to give anything away. I feel The twilight series is all about a young women of 17 who falls deeply in love with a vampire with a twist and throughout the books their relationship twists, turns and grows into an awesome adventure.

I absolutely loved the Twilight series! After finding out about the movie, I just had to get my hands on the books so I could read Twilight before the movie came out. I can't believe I hadn't heard about the books as they were each published! I managed to read Twilight in one day, New Moon and Eclipse in two, and Breaking Dawn in three... And now I'm reading the books again! I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, but I didn't get as obsessive about reading the books like I did with this series. I love the slipcase the books came in and thought the lithographs were a great bonus. This was definitely a great early Christmas gift to myself!!

Poorly written, badly plotted
With its obvious dependence on the plot twists of other stories, most notably Star Wars, Dune, Dragon Slayer, The Lord of the Rings and The Wheel of Time series, at the conclusion of Brisingr I found myself wondering whether Eldest was actually written by Paolini, or heavily edited by someone who has since moved on. His writing abilities have deteriorated with each installment in the series and I'm rather surprised the publishers went ahead and released Brisingr. Don't waste your money.

I was informed tht this book was in brand new condition but in fact it was torn on the cover and the last 4 or 5 chapters are offset and not together with the book not happy with this copy at all

Too Much of a World, Not Enough of a Story
Any book I read aloud to my kids ends up being a book that I look at more favorably than I normally would, but I have to admit, after having finished Brisingr, I couldn't help feeling a little cheated. I know Paolini split the final book in his "trilogy" into two books because there was just too much material for one book, but what I've discovered is that as Mr. Paolini matures, he becomes more long-winded and less able to just tell a story. That's too bad, because I have a feeling there's a story to be told, but it seems almost as if the entire thing could be told in a single (admittedly quite long) book.

Descriptive passages are overcooked, extraneous detail is stuffed into the minds of characters, and the author is trying to create too much of a world and not enough of a story, and frankly the world was created in the first book. We get it. Move on.

A somewhat enjoyable read despite my complaints, but if I hadn't been reading it to my son, I would have put it aside after a hundred pages or so and said "good grief, get me the cliff notes."

Great gift for kids of any age.
I love this product. I have bought 2 in the passed and loved them. It's a great gift to give and the child you give it to have a treasure forever. It shows the creativity of the child. Love, love, love this book.

Not as good as I expected...not worth it.
I thought this would actually be reprinted and bound, but the pages in the book were (it looked like it, anyway) the actual pages we had mailed in. The pictures bled through the pages and there were visible lines everywhere. Maybe it would have been better to do it online, but I think we could have probably done a much better "publishing" job here at home.

If I didn't know Rowling was writing this book for charity...
...I'd say she was milking the series for all it's worth. Either that or this book is a successful "I'm still relevant" ploy.

I love Harry Potter as much as I love fables and myths (perhaps more) but this book was a waste of thirteen books (why didn't I buy it on Amazon?) and frankly rather preachy.

***SPOILER ALERT***

I don't see why the wizard had to keep on helping the muggles after his father died. Does he not have the right to keep to himself and avoid helping them for FREE? I know these stories are supposed to be fantastically absurd/moralistic and what-not but that just annoyed me.

I don't even remember what the other stories were about but what I do remember was that a tidbit (or should I say the VAST majority of this Dr. Seuss book) was an essay analysis of each story penned by Dumbledore himself. I guess they were vaguely interesting to read but more soporific than not IMO.

The Pros? (the reason this isn't one star?)

If you buy this, you'll be donating to charity and can thus consider yourself a good samaritan.

The design of the book is very nice and it makes a nice collectible for hardcore fans.

Liked it with some reservations
A great fan of Harry Potter and Rowlings, I was excitedly waiting for this. It was a super short read and left me feeling slightly disappointed. Most of the short stories had a nice story line and were well-written, but sometimes they felt a bit kiddish.
Now knowing that it is a children's book, and that Rowlings didn't even plan to publish it, and is forwarding the proceeds to charity- it is more than I could hope for. The thirst for more Harry Potter literature burns on and this is sort of an after-the-event teaser :) I encourage Harry Potter fans to read it because you probably can't rest till you do and you, like me, would enjoy whatever snippets you get. However if you're not that into Harry Potter or have never read it, I don't recommend Beedle the Bard.

It is a great book
I can't believe how much I have learned in the past few days just by reading this book. I am already doing some websites and as continue reading I discover more each day. It is a fantastic book. By the way, i went to NYU and the professor was using in class all the excercises from this book. I couldn't belive I paid 500 dollars to school when I could have done it on my own. So, get this book now!

A HUGE help!
Yes, this is a huge volume - as are most software "how-to" and other reference books - but this is one you'll definitely want to tackle if you're interested in building your skills with Dreamweaver CS3. To say there's a ton of good information goes without saying. Any good manual of this type can dish out the factoids, charts and examples in mass quantities, and "The Missing Manual" for Dreamweaver is no exception. To their credit, the authors still manage to present all that information with a good amount of humor and enough real-world examples to make it easy to digest and understand.

Especially useful are the "hands-on" projects and lessons contained in each chapter. You get a taste of topics such as text formatting, page layout, creating / modifying CSS rules and lots, lots more. Each lesson is simple and direct - click here, type this, etc. Step by step. Many of the lessons build on each other, so you can see a complete web page come together with more and more features and complexity. All of the lesson and example files are downloadable from the book's online companion site, so there's no need to find (and store and protect) a CD that might have been included in the book. The site also gives updated information and provides links to more help... very useful.

You probably won't read this book all at once - not unless you're an absolute newcomer to web design and Dreamweaver. If that's the case, you can work through all of the lessons, and come away with a very good understanding of the program's main functions and features. The discussion (and lessons) on CSS alone are well worth the read. Even though the authors say this book is not intended to provide a complete reference for CSS, the material presented greatly increased my knowledge and confidence in using this particularly useful bit of web-design magic.

In short: a very useful, very reader-friendly book that can help any new- to moderately-skilled Dreamweaver user. Advanced users probably know all this stuff already, but for the rest of us, "The Missing Manual" is a great addition to a personal software reference library. Highly recommended.

It's Time Again
Every 18 months Adobe issues a new version of Photoshop. Every 18 months Ben Willmore produces a new version of "Up to Speed", describing the new features of the newest version of Photoshop. Every 18 months I write a review saying that, for experienced Photoshop users, upgrading from the prior version to the newest version, this book is the quickest way to learn the new features. It's that time again.

As usual Willmore describes all the new features in clear precise language. If the function of the feature is obvious, he tells you how to set it up. If its application is not apparent, he explains the feature in enough detail to make it apparent. If it's really complex, he delves into the complexity. It's all there and there is not a superfluous word.

Typical was his instruction concerning Camera Raw 5.0. The new plug-in includes the Adjustment Brush, a tool that was brought over from Lightroom 2 that allows for local adjustments in Camera Raw. In 5 pages he provides the most clear and concise explanation of this tool that I've read anywhere. In fact I'd recommend to Lightroom users who may be a bit confused by the Adjustment Brush that they read this explanation. (Unfortunately, Willmore can't explain why the Adjustment Brush works so much better in Camera Raw then Lightroom, but then, neither can Adobe's engineers.)

I do have a single complaint. Willmore notes that some of the new features of the tools, like Bird's Eye View, may not work without the proper video card. What he didn't say was to go to the Adobe web page, where there's a list of the cards that work, and advice that you may need to download new drivers from the video card's manufacturer, and even links. I installed the new drivers and now all the features are available.

Why waste time reading a Photoshop CS4 book that tells you about features that are carried over from CS3? Spend an evening with this short book and you will be "Up to Speed."

Best photo editing book I have found!
Kelby always produces a thorough and entertaining look at Photoshop Elements. This is the 3rd of his books I have tried. Each one has had wonderful shortcuts and settings information that make using the Adobe program much easier. You don't have to work through the whole book to learn just what you need to fix a problem either!

I got CS3 a month ago and have been staring at it wondering why i even bothered to get it. I have been clueless as to how to use this thing. I bought a "CS3 for dummies" but it didn't really help me with my photography. It gave me some basics and didn't walk me through anything. Then it dawned on me how much I've loved Scott's other books. They are my very favorite photography books ever. They give perfect advice to help you through everything. So off to purchase "anything" by him for CS3. I got this book and WOW! Lights started turning on! Step by step in Kelby fashion he leads you through anything you might have a question about. I couldn't be happier. Makes me want to buy everyone of his books in case i run into something else i need help on. Wonder if he does parenting books....LOL. So thanks Scott Kelby for writing this more than amazing book.

Photoshopping in the extreme
A comprehensive book that will be useful for some time to come. I have barely touched on some of the aspects, but they have been very useful. Another humorous slant on things by Scott Kelby! Always a pleasure to read.

Very helpful
Yes, a very helpful book. Not really 4 stars though, however, compared to the author's competition this book almost rocks. First, there is quite a bit of very useful information within the pages. Then, it is written well, with step by step direction which I found easy to follow. Most topics of interest to me were covered, but it was a little difficult to cope with the basic instruction, only to learn later in the book that there was a much better way to accomplish the same thing. You can't expect one volume to provide every bit of what everyone needs and I didn't. Although, I was surprised at the obvious repetition in one or two chapters, and thought perhaps the editing might have been better. Mr. Kelby's style is unique, but his humor which I found tolerable doesn't, at all, detract from the "very helpful" content. Truly, close to 4 stars, and bravo to Mr. Kelby.

My only issue is that the book doesn't address how to use google analytics more. He gives a lot of suggestions, but there isn't enough guidance in actually how to use GA to pull the data he recommends.

Before you upgrade to Photoshop Elements 7, may I suggest you read the reviews found about the product.

The "Missing Manual" series manuals are a good supplement for what the software makers should provide in the first place. While it may be understandable that the printing of manuals costs a lot, good companies provide manuals online that you can download and print yourself. Adobe is seeking to be or at least become a loser in customer service, now or in the near future.

If you do purchase PE7, then by all means purchase this Missing Manual or another highly rated manual to help you, because you will need it.

So far, this manual has been helpful, perhaps a bit wordy (needed for some), and way more than what you get from Adobe.

Easy to read, and very accurate, I highly recommend this book if you are in any way involved with web design, layout, style, or usability of a site, then this is a must read book. Thank you Steve Krug.

Surprisingly entertaining and useful (to everyone)
Nowadays, most students are faced with the world of HTML and computer science at some point in their academic careers. For me, the first time was in CIS 101 in college. (Yes, there was a second time. It turns out grad school does not assume computer literacy). Although it isn't always part of the formal curriculum, usability is always an underlying theme in technology classes even if it is just a question of whether the HTML textbook is actually written in gibberish or not. Usability is also one of the few fields where anyone, even the computer illiterate, can be an expert.

The idea behind usability is simple: Look at a given design and see how accessible it is for users. Anyone can have an opinion on usability and everyone can provide input. All it takes is a clear head and the patience to look at what works (or doesn't) and why. If you use it, you have information about its usability. To get back to the subjects of Computer Science and technology, usability has lately been applied to the world of Web design.

Usability consultant Steve Krug lays out all of the basics about Web usability in his book Don't Make Me Think: A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability currently in its second edition, published in 2006 after the first edition sold nearly 100,000 copies.

As far as titles go, there are few that offer as clear a picture of the book's content as this one. Krug's main point throughout his 185-page guide is that good Web sites don't make users think. Unlike college, Krug posits that using a conventional website should not be an intellectual exercise. It should be simple, it should be neat, and it should be self-evident. In other words, if a user cannot identify the site's purpose, and where to start on said site, just by viewing the homepage something has gone horribly wrong.

Krug details how to fix such problems and how to avoid them with usability tests. That may sound self-serving save for the fact that Krug also explains how to conduct usability tests on the cheap without the benefit of a usability consultant such as himself.

Written in short chapters packed with illustrations, this book is designed to be approachable and easy to read. Krug is serious about Web usability, but that in no way means his book is stodgy or dry. Examples of usability at work are littered with cartoons and the text maintains a sense of humor. My favorite chapter title (and subtitle) "Usability as common courtesy: Why your Web site should be a mensch" might offer some idea of what tone to expect from this book.

Of course, taking a computer class to meet a core requirement in college doesn't always lead to work in the field of Web design in fact most of the time it leads to an entirely different career. But, in today's technology-driven culture, doesn't everything come back to the Internet eventually?

It might just be working as an intern at an online magazine, or a starting position where duties include entering data into online spreadsheets, or it might just be writing your own blog on a site like WordPress or Blogger. Wherever your path leads, knowing something about Web usability and how good Web sites get that way can only help. As more and more information moves to cyberspace, with websites being created and updated all the time, it's important to be prepared by knowing how to analyze not only the information found online but also how it is presented. Don't Make Me Think is one tool that can assist Web users in that preparation.

A must have reference on your web-building bookshelf
I bought this book to supplement a class I am taking to update my web design skills (I've been involved in web design & content management for over ten years).

I was a bit hazy on the "infrastructure" lesson, so I asked my teacher which book she recommended for extra information. She recommended this one.

THANK GOODNESS she did!

It's easy to read and understand and it's short so it did NOT end up in the pile o' books I have yet to read (I literally read half of it the day it arrived on my doorstep). It clarified all of my questions and doubts on how to organize a website and how to design for ease of use.

This book is a BLESSING in every sense.

Scott Kelby has again written a book that makes getting started using Lightroom 2 easy.

Quickest way to get up and running in Lightroom 2
I had never used Lightroom before in my life.. I wasn't even sure what all it COULD do. I just knew that a lot of people recommended it so I thought I'd give it a try. I installed the software and then stared at it blankly. I had no clue where to begin. I clicked a few buttons but got really lost really fast. I began to wonder if I'd wasted my money. But luckily I'd also picked up Scott Kelby's book. :)

First of all i LOVE Scott's humor. I love "mental breaks" and always get a chuckle out of his chapter introductions. I read the intro to the book which recommends downloading a video, and his sample files so you can follow along. I think some of the chapter 4 pictures may be mis-filed under chapter 5 though so if you can't find a picture, check another chapter file.

So I stayed up past 1am the first night going through the first 5 chapters. I was hooked and amazed! His book was easy to follow and really got me excited about what this program can do. The first 3 chapters or so are all about organization. A part of me wanted to skip this part, but i didn't.. it's worth a read. It's amazing what they've built into this.. much different than the organizer used in Photoshop Elements. It has ways to compare photos side by side, or show a before and after edits... very cool stuff! Finally I got to the first chapter on developing photos. Good stuff.

I'm only half way through the book, but at least I'm up and running. I know enough to be dangerous. :) Enough to be excited and in love with Lightroom! I love that he even showed you the settings to get that trendy gritty look in your photographs!

I haven't looked at any other Lightroom books but if you're new to Lightroom I can attest that this book is fantastic. it'll teach you step by step the proper workflow to maximize your use of Lightroom! So hurry up and hit that Buy button! :)

A real learning experience
Scott Kelby's books teach me in such a way that I end up being much more adept at actually using the software. I'm not a professional, and his step by step methods show me what to do and how to do it as only a professional can.
Makes me a better photographer, and much better at using both Lightroom and Photoshop.

Excellent advice
The book is its own best review. It is engaging, persuasive and memorable practicing what it preaches and giving a good presentation. The advice is a bit esoteric if you are looking for liniar, rational, step-by-step methodology and is obviously based much more on intuitive thought and art, but this is exactly what the author promised. The book does have sufficient building blocks and practical instructions to get started in the presentation process, but goes far beyond that in scope. The author does seem to capture the true intent of a presentation as being an opportunity to influence and persuade an audience rather than death by power point with data saturated slides. This is not a hold your hand, step-by-step guide to great presentaions. You can not be led to that level of performance. This book however does clearly point the way and encourage you to walk the path to giving great presentaions, but the reader still needs to do the walking.

Shakes my tired patterns!
This book, recommended to me by a student of mine, gave me wonderfully fresh ways to look at my old and tired ways. I have walked away with some good techniques and ways of thinking.

A Valuable Approach to Presentation Design in a Digital and Information Rich Society
Garr Reynolds is a former Manager of WW User Group Relations at Apple Computer, and is a currently a Marketing and Multimedia Presentation Design at Kansai Gaidai University in Japan.

In this "How-to" book, Presentation Zen, Garr offers a fresh teaching approach to presentation design. Garr organizes his book into three sections Preparation, Design and Delivery. Within these sections Garr stresses Clarity, Simplicity and Naturalness.

He cautions not to begin writing your presentation in PowerPoint, and instead to get out a notepad or scratch paper and jump into the creative process feet first. Imagine Shakespeare writing Romeo & Juliet in PowerPoint slides, it would have proved creatively impossible. Before digitizing your presentation, write it down on paper, yellow post-its, or a whiteboard. Generate a lot of ideas and then cut away the unnecessary information, then prioritize and organize your main points.

Garr also stresses not to "Data Dump" or simply paste entire excel sheets full of figures into a PowerPoint slide. Instead Garr asks readers to crunch the numbers first, consider the implications and wider relations and sum up the conclusion on each slide. He points out that the slide is not the place for you to walk the audience through a detailed walk through a process, that is better left to an actual printed document with deep explanation. Rather every slide should state a conclusion, a key takeway that the presenter can expand upon during the presentation.

OMG-I loved reading this. I immediately understood Bella, and the style of writing was vivid. I especially liked the last book, because I thought Renesmee was a great character. I liked a bit of action, like the scene in "New Moon" with Laurent, and I liked some character development, like in "Eclipse" when Rosalie told Bella her story.

Gorgeous keepsake collection of all four books in the Twilight series!
This is a value buy for those who are contemplating sinking their teeth [pun intended] into Stephenie Meyers' Twilight series as it not only offers all four books, i.e. Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn for a great price, they all come housed in a gorgeous keepsake box. I have all four of the books in hardcover, but I purchased them individually as they were released, and am seriously contemplating getting this boxed set which I can keep as a souvenir, and then use the other books as my reading copies.

Well, for those who are new to the series, the books are in the following order:
Twilight - Bella Swan moves to a small town near Seattle called Forks and meets Edward Cullen, an enigmatic student at her high school who turns out to be a vampire and lives with his clan in a magnificent mansion. As the romance between Bella and Edward blossom, they have to face obstacles such as the physical 'constraints' of being in a mortal-vampire relationship, facing objections from their respective families, and threats from other more vicious vampires.

New Moon - Edward and Bella are parted and Bella is so heartbroken that her life becomes empty and without direction. Enter Jacob Black, the tall, dark and handsome friend from the reservation, La Push who provides Bella with not only friendship but someone she can trust and rely on during a desperate time. Of course, nothing in Bella Swan's life is ever quite so simple and complications crop up once again.

Eclipse - Edward and Bella are back together, much to the disappointment and disgust of Jacob Black, himself now an other-worldly being. Will he convince Bella that he is more worthy of her love or will Edward prevail?

Breaking Dawn - the final instalment in the series. Edward, Bella and Jacob feature prominently here, with the most pivotal question - will Bella sacrifice her mortality for an immortal life with Edward? If so, what are the repercussions?

All in all, the Twilight series makes for an interesting and fun reading experience and this beautiful boxed set for the price offered here on Amazon is definitely a keepsake for fans and new readers alike!

One Star is WAY Too Much to give for this series.
To put it simply, the books were terrible. Not only did they have purple prose on every page, but the lack of general writing quality was horrifying, and Meyer appeared to have wanted to set feminism back about 100 years in the process. 'Twilight' introduces the main heroine, Bella Swan ('beautiful swan') who is nothing more than a walking doormat. She could hardly take a step without needing a boy to come and rescue her, which (as a girl) I find extremely degrading.

Bella gives up all her ambitions, goals and dreams (which consists only of reading 'Wuthering Heights' over and over again, but nevertheless...) to marry Edward, abandoning her friends and family without a second thought. Oh, how lovely...

Not one of the characters were developed well in the least. Meyer used Bella's clichéd flaws to try to make her endearing, and failed miserably. Bella is a seemingly unattractive, plain, clumsy, immature, self-concious girl, yet every person with a 'y' chromosome feels the need to throw themselves at her. Please, spare me.

Bella and Edward's 'love' is never explained. The only thing we know is that she thinks he's hot and he thinks she smells good. Not exactly a captivating romance.

The entire series revolves around 'Edward is beautiful and prefect and gorgeous', 'I hate Forks', 'Edward is beautiful and perfect and gorgeous', 'How dare these people actually be nice to me, they must be out to get me, that's the only explaination', 'I hate Forks', 'Edward is beautiful and perfect and gorgeous'. Gets a little straining after a while.

The dialogue isn't in keeping with the targeted age group. At one point (eighteen-year-old) Bella actually states "Holy crow!" Come on, I'm a thirteen year old and I don't even say things like that.

There are so many plot holes it's ridiculous. I mean, her father is the Chief of Police and he doesn't know that a strange man is sneaking into his daughter's room at night and sleeping over? And he can't tell when his own child is lying through her teeth at him? Call me crazy, but I find that really hard to believe.

Bella is one of the most co-dependant characters I've ever come across, and I've come across a lot of characters. At first, she was okay, not ideal, but okay. But after she met Edward, she became completely dependent on the Cullens, drooling over them and hanging on their every word. If Edward didn't come to school one day, was she seriously going to die? I think not.

And Edward! Contrary to popular belief, he's not 'every girl's dream'; *he-hem* I'm a girl, thank you very much and Edward is about the worst boyfriend I could ever imagine (with the possible exception of George Bush) Ugh, and I thought I was going to hurl at all the corny one-liners he was dishing out. 'Before you my life was like a moonless night, but you brighten up my world with your beauty' (or something to that effect) Yes, okay, you like her, we get the point, jeeze! And through the entire book, he was practically groping her. Every other sentence was '... and he leaned in to brush his marble lips once more to my [insert body part here] I'm glad I'm not a gullible person, because this is teaching teenage girls that groping is okay, it shows that the guy loves you! Not a great message to be putting out there- even though half the fangirls proclaiming their undying love to him would've- had he been real -put a restraining order out on him two day into the 'relatinoship'.

And the name Renesmee Carlie Cullen? Seriously? If Meyer wanted to encorperate Renee, Esme, Carlisle and Charlie into the 'child's' name, why couldn't she have used Charlotte (nickname: Charlie/Carlie) Esme Renee Cullen? At least that's realistic and it avoids the whole 'Loch Ness Monster' fiasco (which a responsible writer would have taken into account).

Meyer frequently changed the POV of her characters; at one point Bella stated that her 'cheeks were as red as tomatoes'. Not only is this one of the most clichéd similes a writer can use (tomatoes are red? Wow, I never would have known *rolls eyes*), it begs the question, how could Bella have known what color her cheeks were? They could have been blue with green polka-dots for all she knew, she wasn't standing in front of a mirror.

I'm completely baffled that a book this mediocre made it on the New York Times Best-Seller List. It's a huge kick in the stomach for all us writers who want to add something meaningful to the literary world, and not include a 'hawt' guy for eleven year old girls to drool over.

I just finished reading this the other night and even though it was extremely long...... I still really liked it! I'm not going to go over the story because there are alot of other reviews with that on there. I've read the first two books and absolutly loved em'! I just thought that it was a little longer than it really needed to be. I found myself thinking "Goodness get to the point!" in certain chapters. But I still found myself not wanting to put it down! If you have read the first two books in this sequal and you liked/loved them, then you will really enjoy this book.

Great Book
This might be the best book so far in the series. Once you start reading the book, you can hardly put it down, I read the entire book in a weekend. I am not sure what to say about those who gave the book less than 3 stars, I have read far worse books. I can't wait for book 4, it should be even better. I read a book about every other week, so I think I have a better than most feel for a what a good book is and what a bad one is, and this is a good read.

More Gary Stu Goodness
Paolini does not seem to have improved much since the first book. His dialog remains stiff and formal, his prose is as purple as ever, and really this book could have been shaved down into the finale.

Stephenie Meyer - Well Done!
Well, I tried to read this book slower, (I killed off the first one in two days). I managed to spread it out over 4 days. I had to know what was going to happen. It was very difficult to put down.

*Spoilers*
So the book starts out with Edward leaving after the birthday party incident. This was an excellent decision by the author. I would have to admit I was really upset about it at first. I had to take a peak at the end of the book to make sure the Cullens came back. Thank God they did.

I enjoyed reading about Bella's struggles and emotions after Edward left. I could really feel her pain, and I would have to say that all women have felt this before at some point in their lives, and it is horrible. Very easy to relate to those emotions.

Jacob Black.. need I say more? I love how the author developed him into one of the main characters because he is so lovable. He rescued Bella and caused her conflict at the same time.

The end of the book is very exciting and fast passed. Everything comes back full circle and the book leaves you with a cliffhanger. I can't wait to see how the Edward, Jacob, Bella relationships progress.

Only thing I am sad about is it is taking Amazon 10 Days to ship me the last two books. Hopefully this is because there are so many other orders before mine. I can't wait for the movie to come out as well. Should be interesting to see what they do with the plot lines.

My least favorite
I absolutely loved Twilight!!! New Moon was not my favorite because it was just too sad but, with that said I still couldn't put it down. I am a stay at mom of two kids and there is nothing I appreciate more than sleep. I stayed up 3 nights in row just to finish the series. I can't believe SM is not going ahead with Midnight Sun. I certainly hope she changes her mind because I am hooked.

First Was Better, but Not by Much
It's three days past finishing the first book of this saga and I'm done with number two. It still feels like a train wreck.

My suspension of disbelief is entirely strained to the point of breaking because the fantasy portion of these books barely holds water (okay, the first book was better, but the werewolf stuff in this book was frankly not that interesting at all...not for the characters, not for the reader).

While the first of this series has all the tension of forbidden love and some creepy people chasing after Bella, this second book lacks much of the substance, if you can call it that.

Again, we're trapped in Bella's head, and now she's unbelievably depressed. Oh but I believed it, because I, like many others, have been there done that in our youths. With that said, do I really want to go there in someone else's head for two hundred pages? I kept reading, clinging to hope there was a story.

The relationship with Jacob is hardly a teaser as it's clear where Bella's mind and heart lie, she tells us ever moment. I mean heck, she's threatening her own life just to induce auditory hallucinations of her true love....yeah, she's desperate--for most of the book.

(Slight spoiler) What made me reel in disgust toward the end was a little speech by Edward chastising Bella for so easily believing him when he said he didn't love her anymore.

Great, so this was really all Bella's fault for not fighting?

Okay, I, and many ladies I know, have heard such lines in our lives from men and it makes us crazy angry to have the table flipped over without due cause. But Bella, is like "Oh, I was a fool wasn't I?"

Seriously, whatever charm the characters possessed for me in the first book was obliterated.

However, I did like Alice even more as well as Jacob. His is the new turmoil to watch.

As I said in my review of Book 1, I'm going to read these all. I'm just too curious though I'm quickly hating the hours I spend on reading them.

A fun, light read that's not just for teens.
At first, I wasn't sure what to make of Bella. As a seventeen-year-old with divorced parents, I thought her quite mature... considering she had pretty much fended for herself and her mother, who is very forgetful and eccentric. And now she's going to visit her father in his small hometown of Forks, Washington. She doesn't want to go - she hates it there - but she's determined.

While she makes friends easily enough, but for some reason becomes fascinated with Edward Cullen. He, and his brothers and sisters, aren't like the rest of the students, and for some strange reason, he seems to dislike her - extremely. And she can't figure out what she's done to be on the receiving end of such dislike. But what she doesn't know is that Edward is attracted to her as well, and is fighting it; fighting it hard.

As their relationship grows, Bella figures out what Edward really is: a vampire. Does it frighten her? Not in the least. Edward doesn't frighten her at all. She wants to know more about him and his family, for the more time they spend together, the more she's falling in love with him. And he is falling in love with her.

But she's determined to get to know him, and fighting it was futile for Edward. And so, he showed her - everything but feeding. I was kind of glad about that - may have been too soon for a first novel, I think.

It was fun watching their relationship grow. I think my favourite part was in the restaurant, where, no matter how much the waitress flirted, Edward only had eyes and attention for Bella. He reminded me very much of my husband, who does the exact same thing. He takes me to restaurants to spend time with me, away from home and kids, not flirt with the staff. I like that and can't get enough of it.

I liked the idea of being in Bella's head while you're experiencing everything with the main character. You'll find Edward just as complex as Bella does. The writing is clear and precise, easy to follow (almost a little too easy). However, I think there could have been more...

Bella has Edward and quite a few males in her class drooling over her, even though she doesn't find herself pretty. I think the author should boost her self-esteem a little. Sure, everyone complains about their looks, but I was kind of getting tired of Bella's reaction and non-reaction. Edward and his family are portrayed as `perfect'. I think the author should have added flaws for them... perfect becomes very boring very quickly and I was getting tired reading about perfect hair, perfect eyes, perfect body, perfect everything. I found that, by the middle of the book, I had to force myself a little too keep going; my attention was wandering. As a bookaholic, that's not a good thing for me. I need substance, action, a little more intrigue, to keep me going.

Despite that, I thought it a light, fun read. Did I like it? Sure, for what it was. Will I continue with the series? More than likely... I'm curious to see where the series goes.

A Great Book!
Yes, I'm a kid, a year away from being a teen. I normally stay away from scary books, because I get scared of things easily. But my friend thought that I would like this book, so I ordered it, and I don't like it... I love it! It's an amazing book filled with drama, excitement, romance, and action. I'm on the third one, and can't wait to read the fourth. Hope I helped!

If you're addicted to her previous Twilight books you'll love this one too. It's pretty much amazing.

I'm guessing anyone who has read the other three books would most likely not be reading this review, at this time. Because if you already read the other three you would already be in check out buying this book...

You have to have this book. So yeah, I don't know, if you haven't read the other twilight books and for some reason you're wasting your time reading this review... Go order Twilight, you might as well order New Moon.. you'll be in need of another Meyer book ASAP, same goes for Eclipse, and yeah get Breaking Dawn while you're at it. Might as well buy them all at the same time. You'll save yourself some painful withdrawals by having them all there, so you can just finish one book and go to the next.

One of the greatest series of this time, if not THE greatest. Hands down, best love story ever. No joke. Don't let the idea of it being a "vampire" novel run you off. Once you go Vampire... you never go back.

And if you're one of those people who don't like reading books other people read because the idea of conformity just completely ruins your perception on who you think "you" are.. Drop the act. By the book.

Enjoy the greatest four books you will ever read. Meyer redefines brilliant.

Excellent Romance
The author depicts the deep yearning, insecurity, and passion that only people in love display. The vampires and werewolves only serve to heighten the drama and suspense. I couldn't stop turning the pages of the first three books. I read them in less than a week and can't wait for the fourth. I hope the author continues with new vampire romance novels.

Awesome sequel to Twilight and New Moon
This book is a wonderful sequel to the first 2 books in the series, Twilight and New Moon. Basically, Edward and Bella's love is again progressed in this wonderful novel. Stephanie Myer did a fantastic job again. The last few chapters will leave you in suspense. Don't hesitate to get it. It's great.

If you are a fan of the."Twilight," series then this is definitely worth a read. Young adults and up will love this and the others in the series. It neatly ties in all of the characters and leaves you waiting for more. So much fun. It is one thrilling ride from beginning to end.

The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch is an autobiography of Pausch's life. It has some assistance from his friend and superior, Jeffrey Zaslow. Pausch starts off his book, right into the issue, which is that of his stages of pancreatic cancer. He is a professor at Carnegie Mellon University, as he was supposed to give his "last lecture" for the university, something that a lot of professors do, he never thought that it could very well be his last lecture of life as well. So Pausch decided to make his Last Lecture about his life, and enjoying every single minute of what he has accomplished and how others should do the very same thing. He entitled the lecture, "Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams." This was how he approached his speech and he had it sectioned into different dreams he had as a child and he explained how somehow, someway in his life has accomplished those dreams. Whether indirectly or directly, he did it. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in early 2006 and died just this past July, 2008. He has three children, two young boys and a baby girl, and a wife, Jai. Jai was his backbone throughout everything Randy had to endure. He had also always said that part of the reason he was doing his "last lecture" was so that his kids could see how great of a man he was and just how many people loved him. He really was loved by so many people because he had helped so many out and gave recommendations for his students to make sure they the opportunities that he was given. The book doesn't end the way you would assume, with death, but it ends with a life lesson. The lesson is to enjoy your life and fulfill your dreams. Randy wanted people to love him for the life he lived but not because he was dead or dying.
This book did not have very much detail within his cancer development. He made subtle remarks about how it was progressing and how Jai, his wife, had been there to help him get his chemotherapy and make sure the children did not worry too much about their father. I don't think I would use this book in particular to describe cancer and its biology but maybe the way it affects certain people. I think that cancer affected Randy Pausch in a positive way, if that's even possible. Positive maybe too harsh of a word but it definitely affected him in a good way. He learned to love and appreciate and wanted to share that with the people around him as well as the people he could not reach. So overall, cancer, on an emotional level, this book reaches that aspect but on a biology level, it does lack.
Personally, this book did affect me. I read most of it while I was in Canada. My best friend's grandmother was obsessed with this book and insisted that I read it as well, and that I did. I read mostly in the early morning on the hot rocks that faced the lake. I was so impressed with how beautiful Canada was that sometimes I would just watch the shine of the sun on the waters. I realized that there was a definite connection for why I was reading this very book while on my first out-of-country experience. I was learning my first "life lesson " via Randy Pausch. He was teaching me to be thankful and joyous I have these opportunities. I am thankful and I am thankful it took a book to help me come to that realization. I would recommend this book to every single person over the age of 16 because once you hit that age, your responsibilities only seem to grow. I would have to say this book was an escape for me and I really think that anyone can let it be anything they wish for it to be. Overall, this book hit a special, sensitive spot for me and I am very glad that I have read it.

Dont be afraid to dream
I first heard about this lecture from my wife. A friend had sent her the video link and she sent it to me. I watched this and was so moved by Dr. Randy Pausch's lecture and outlook on life that I had to buy his book. Even though he only had a short time to live during the writing of his lecture and subsequent book, he never gave up on life. There are so many important points in this book that we can all learn from that I have read this book three time now, underlining the points I want my wife and friends to learn. Dr. Randy Pausch was an amazing man and my prayers go out to his family, but his legecy will live on. I strongly recomend parent read this to your children.
And remember
Dream as if you will live forever. Live as of you will die tomorrow.

The Last Lecture
I thought this book was excellent. This was my selection for my monthly book club and I felt I had given the other members a "gift" by having them read this book. I want to go back with a yellow highlighter and mark some of the parts that I thought were especially important. I recommend this book for all ages of people.
